How to Get Funding-Ready Before You Apply
Lenders reject unprepared applicants fast. This is the checklist that gets you to 'yes'.
By MMT Editorial
Most funding denials happen because the business wasn't ready — not because the business was bad. Here's what to have in place first.
The fundability checklist
- Legal foundation: LLC/corp in good standing, EIN, DUNS number, business address and phone.
- Business bank account with 3–6 months of healthy deposit history.
- Separated finances — no personal expenses run through the business.
- Bookkeeping current — clean P&L and balance sheet lenders can read.
- Business credit file with several reporting tradelines and a PAYDEX at or above 80.
- Personal credit in good shape (it still matters for most small-business lending).
Match the product to the need
- Working capital gaps → line of credit.
- One-time investment → term loan.
- Equipment → equipment financing (the asset secures it).
- Slow-paying B2B customers → invoice factoring.
Then apply strategically
Apply where you actually qualify, not everywhere at once — clustered hard inquiries hurt. Your Funding Readiness Score in the member portal estimates where you stand and what to fix first.
